Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS)
NEXT COURSE:
Fish Safe runs this course on an as-needed basis meaning that we will coordinate a date, time, and location based on the interest that comes through. Please get in touch with us and we’ll coordinate the training for you.
The Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS) course is an essential Transport Canada minimum requirement for virtually every commercial fisherman in Canada. Learn the basics of cold water survival, making a mayday call, fire fighting, using flares in an emergency and much, much more!
For BC commercial fishermen, Fish Safe delivers this course free of charge via its Safest Catch program on board your vessel where it is appropriate to do so
Alternatively, when larger groups are involved, Fish Safe can deliver this course via a classroom setting - again, free of charge to BC commercial fishermen.
Age requirement: A person must be at least 15 years of age to obtain this certificate.
Prerequisite: Transport Canada now requires you to complete the online Fatigue Management at Sea course from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) before you can take the Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS) course.
Here’s how to get started:
Go to the CCOHS registration page here.
Create an account with CCOHS.
