Please get in touch with us regarding the SVOP course schedule at fishsafe@fishsafebc.com or call 604-261-9700
Due to our smaller class sizes, we are currently accepting registrations from commercial fishermen ONLY.
A valid Fisher Registration Card (FRC) may be requested to verify that you fish commercially.
No one particularly enjoys classroom training. That’s why Fish Safe offers a customized SVOP course that's both practical and fun and was designed by BC commercial fishermen specifically for commercial fishermen.
Navigation, Chartwork, Electronics, Buoyage, Weather and What If’s are all covered to help make for safer wheel turns. No commercial fishing vessel can afford to have a weak link – make sure you’re not one of them.
Certification: A SVOP certificate will be issued by Transport Canada to all course graduates.
For small vessels (under 15gt) the SVOP certificate meets the Vessel Master Certificate requirements.
For larger vessels (over 15gt) the SVOP certificate provides the training / skills for course participants to take safe wheel turns
Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age before using this certificate to carry out the duties of an operator of a commercial vessel.
4 day course.
Reduced crew sizes and shortened fishing seasons put pressure on BC commercial fishermen like never before. In this environment, every crewman plays a role in the safe operation of their fishing vessel. Learn the fundamentals of navigation, collision regulations, buoyage, fatigue management and much, much more – all taught according to the Fish Safe formula: Simple-Clear-Practical.
BC commercial fishermen cost: $300 CAD plus GST
Please note that a minimum of 5 participants are required for the SVOP course to proceed. If the minimum requirement is not met one week before the start of the course, Fish Safe will be in contact to offer a full refund of the course registration fee. Course dates, locations, and start time are subject to change without notice.
