Great News! Funding for commercial fishing safety training in Canada announced.

Fish Safe and the Canadian commercial fishing industry at large received great news today from Transport Canada as they announced significant funding for commercial fishing safety training.  (Read the official announcement here: http://news.gc.ca/web/article-en.do?nid=1029959)

It’s with gratitude and excitement that Fish Safe now prepares for increased activity on a national scale with the support of Transport Canada and its funding of our “Safest Catch Initiative” a program that uses qualified commercial fishermen to help other fishermen take ownership of safety onboard their own vessels.

With a broad regional mandate and by means of a robust stakeholder engagement process, Fish Safe will be working quickly to engage Quebec and east coast safety associations, educators, industry groups and the like to help identify and meet the local needs of commercial fishermen in their respective locations and fisheries.

With core funding from the BC commercial fishing industry, Fish Safe has been the designated health and safety association serving BC commercial fishermen since 2004.

We look forward to the journey ahead and the prospect of working hand in hand with fishermen across Canada in the quest to come home safely season after season.
