Fish Safe Advisory Committee

Vision:  A World Leading Safety Culture in the BC Fishing Industry

Terms of Reference: 

  • Represent the West Coast Fishing Industry on Safety Issues in regional and national forums and committees;
  • To provide a forum for industry and regulatory agencies to discuss safety;
  • Be a central resource for industry consensus on safety issues;
  • To review and respond to policies, proposals and issues on safety;
  • To review trends and statistics;
  • To review the effectiveness of Fish Safe Programs;
  • Provide the leadership role in promoting safety culture;
  • Provide direction to the Fishing Industry Safety Coordinator – Gina Johansen;
  • Meet four times per year or as required. 

Committee Structure

Committee members are invited based on representation of gear type, size of vessel or fishing association to provide a well rounded west coast representation. 

Terms

  • Commit to a one year term minimum 

Role:

  • Attend Fish Safe meetings on behalf of the commercial fishing industry to represent a specific sector and report back with meeting outcomes and action items;

  • To develop and forward recommendations to regulatory agencies and sit on other safety committees representing the Fish Safe Advisory Committee when required;

  • Assist in disseminating safety information to the fishing industry;

  • Complete terms of reference for committee.

  • January 29, 2008
  • May 8, 2008
  • July 29, 2008 and
  • September 23, 2008.
