Safety Drills Save Lives….

water survival Incidents on the water happen quickly, with little warning. Survival is determined in minutes.  How prepared are you?  Is your vessel well maintained?  Do you provide on board safety orientation for your crew as well as up to date safety equipment?  Are emergency drills and lifesaving procedures a part of your fishing routine?  Practiced procedures minimize panic and make reaction to emergencies more instinctual.  Not being prepared for safety can lead to loss of life.  Click on the video clip below to learn more about the importance of being prepared.

Drills provide the opportunity to practice and prepare for emergencies.  Make drills a regular practice at the beginning of the season, on crew changes and periodically under a variety of different conditions.  Assign crew members with specific areas of responsibility in an emergency and make sure they are familiar with all areas in case they have to take over the duties of an incapacitated mate.  Knowing these practices could make the difference between life and death.  The following video clips provide practical information on mentoring safety on board.
