Since 2004 the goal of Fish Safe was to bring together all involved in fishing safety into one forum.  Fishermen from all gear types and fishing organizations were invited to send representatives.  All regulatory agencies involved in fishing safety were invited to attend in the hopes that there would be some cohesiveness in the application of regulations.  In a short period of time the committee had regular attendance from fishermen, fishing companies, naval architects, marine educators, marine insurance, fishing organizations, DFO, Transport Canada,  Canadian Coast Guard and WCB. 

Now that everyone is under one roof so to speak, the committee recognized the need to move forward in formalizing the terms of reference and membership.  The terms of reference are  under development are slated to be discussed at the June 2007 meeting. 

The Fish Safe Advisory Committee generally meets three times per year (January, June, September).  If you are interested in being involved in this committee please contact us and make sure to be invited to the next meeting.
